7 weeks old

I'm having a little emotional breakdown right now, kinda sad that that's what it takes to get me to blog, I'll try to be better. These past 7 weeks have been an amazing adventure. Aaron and I have the greatest baby. She's happy, she sleeps and eats good, and she makes us smile and laugh every day. I'm already getting sad that she's growing up, and she's not even 2 months old. She's just so perfect. I have totally become an overprotective mom. I'm trying to relax and not go overboard but I just don't want her to have to suffer any little bit of pain. Aaron has done amazing through all of this. He's a very involved dad and helps so much. I'm so greatful he's willing to change bums, help bathe her, bounce her when she's fussy, and all that comes with a baby. Here is a very summarized list of things that have happened this past 2 months.

-Numerous poop explosions including one on the way to my mom's house and one where she pooped on me, then again on the couch in a matter of 10 minutes or so.
-2 and 6 week appointments with Cathy. At 2 weeks she weighed 8.4 and at 6 weeks weighed 10.4 and had grown an inch!
-got blessed on July 3rd

Things we have learned about Emery
-She likes tummy time and can already scoot around just using her legs, but then she drags her head on the ground and gets frustrated.
-She can sleep through fireworks but if the tv cracks it scares her big time
-She likes being held upright on your shoulder...especially mom's shoulder :)

The Birth!!

I really want to make sure every detail of these first few weeks is documented, because I never want to forget this experience. So this post will be dedicated just to the actual birth. Monday night (the 16th) I went to bed feeling a little crampy, but slept fine until about 4 am. I got up, had some cereal, and watched some Avatar, all the while feeling some small pressure waves. Aaron woke up about 7 and we decided we better let Cathy know soon since she was planning on going to Huntington for a follow-up appointment that day. So a little before 8 I text her and she said she would come check me and then decided if she could make it up there or not. By that time my pressure waves were 4-6 minutes apart but only lasting about 45 seconds. She checked me and I was at a 2. She said she would stay and not go to Huntington because we were definately having a baby, and to call her when the pressure waves were about a minute apart. So Aaron and I just chilled, watched more t.v., and I even got in a little nap. At about 1 we timed a few and they were about 3-4 minutes apart and lasting 50-55 seconds so we called again. Cathy said I was at a 3.5 or 4 and we could go to Bella whenever we wanted. We decided we would leave in about a half hour and meet her up there.
We made sure we had everything we needed, packed it all up in the car and were on our way. At this point the pressure waves were uncomfortable but still completely manageable. I made the comment to Aaron that I was curious where these fell on the scale of how intense they were going to get because I really didn't feel like they were horrible. While we were on our way, I would dry heave a little with each pressure wave, but I really didn't feel like I was going to puke or anything like that. We got to bella at 2:30 and they were filling up the tub for me. I got in and it helped a lot. I was still doing that dry heave thing and Emily asked me if I was pushing, because it sounded like I was. I didn't know...my body was just doing that. So Cathy checked me again and I was already at a 7.5-8. It stayed in the tub for a little while longer until my body started making me push/dry heave a little harder. By that time I was fully dilated but had a little rim of cervix that was still there. So I had to get out of the water and move to the bed so they could try to get it out of the way. This was by far the hardest part of the birth. They put my in a few positions including stuffing pillows under my hips and having me on my back, being on all fours, being on my knees and elbows with my butt in the air, and laying on my left side. All the while Cathy had her hand up my birth canal trying to get that cervix out of the way. She kept telling me not to push but it was so hard not to do something your body was trying to make you do. Janae stayed by my side and coached me through it, I don't think I could have done it without her, she was an amazing coach. That lasted for probably a half hour or so and then they gave me the ok to get back in the tub.
Then it was go time. I started pushing and it was crazy. Your uterus squeezes so tight it kinda forces the air out of you. I was making this crazy groaning noise, not out of pain but because the pressure was so intense it just forces it out of you. The initial pushing down the birth canal felt the same as when you are pooping, but once she started crowning it felt different. At that point I had to try to control my pushes again so that my perineum could stretch slowly. That was also hard but not as hard as before. I could feel it really burning and with each pressure wave she came out a little more until finally her head was out. The relief was instant, but then it was time for the shoulders, which came out easier than the head but still took a little pushing. And then she was born. They lifter her out of the water and put her on my chest. She started breathing right away but didn't cry a lot, just a few noises. I just held her while we waited for my placenta to come out. She was glaring at us like she was so ticked off that we made her come out. :) They gave me a little oxygen hose to wave in front of her face, and then I had to push out the placenta. It only took a few pushes but when it came out the tub filled with blood. I guess it was kind of a lot of blood because they gave me a shot of pitocen to keep my uterus contracting, but nothing too serious. At that point they handed the baby and the placenta to Aaron and he got to hold her for the first time. I got out of the tub and headed back to the bed. They gave the baby back to me and I breast fed for a little while. She did so good right from the beginning.
Then came the not so great part. Cathy had to check to see if I had torn, and I had. I had a 2nd degree tear, which I don't really know what the means but I tore from my vagina to my rectum, but luckily not through my rectum. So I had to get stitched up. At that point I really just wanted my crotch to be left alone, it had been poked and prodded for several hours straight, but it had to be done. It took a long time and I just had to lay there with my legs spread while Cathy worked away. At one point I farted right in her face. I didn't even feel it coming, poor lady. While I got stitched, Janae checked Emery. She weighed 7 pounds 8 oz and was 21 inches long. She was born at 5:02 pm and got a perfect 10 on her Apgar. When that was finally done they gave me my baby back. We spent the next few hours just holding her. My mom went and got us Cafe Rio and after that we just rested, I think I fell asleep for a little bit. At one point Cathy came back to check on me because I felt like I was bleeding a lot but she said I was ok. At 10:30 we decided to go home so we packed up our stuff, dressed Emery in her little (but actually huge) pajamas and headed out the door. She absolutely hated the car seat, and we made it just a few blocks before pulling over so I could get in the back seat and try to calm her down because she was screaming bloody murder. I got her to stop crying and we made it home despite the stupid rain.

I want to try and write down my feelings about it now that the facts have been told. I know I won't be able to capture the emotions and feelings with the justice they deserve but I want to at least try. I'm so incredibly glad we chose the route we did. Everything was so calm and focused around Aaron and me. I did most of my laboring at home with just Aaron to help me through it. He did an incredible job the whole time. He stayed calm and supportive and did anything and everything I asked him to. Once we got to Bella they continued to give us our privacy and I labored in the tub while Aaron rubbed my back and gave me gatorade. We were able to talk about how this was it...what our lives had been centered around for the last 9 months. We were about to meet the little girl we had created. The whole thing remained so peaceful and in the moment. No machines, no random people running around. Emily and Janae were in the bathroom with us on and off, pressing on my knees and telling me how good I was doing. Those 3 ladies are the dream team. They were firm but positive and they provided so much comfort and reassurance to me. I felt in control of myself the whole time, but they stayed right there with me and coached me on how to make it through the tough parts. I do remember praying during the part on the bed when I couldn't push for Heavenly Father to please make that part quick and help me to stay strong. When Emery finally came out and they lifted her into my arms it was so surreal. I just stared at her and told her it was all ok. I talked to Aaron too, just saying things like "Aaron we have a baby."
There really aren't words to describe it, but it was perfect. For the most part it was Aaron, me, and our baby. We did it together and were able to make all the decisions and have all the control about how we wanted the day to go. It was intimate and personal and we both had to work together to make it through. In the end it went so smoothly and perfectly. I feel a special bond to Cathy, Janae, and Emily too. Janae really stepped up and pulled me through the toughest parts. I can't thank those ladies enough for doing all they did for us. Emery's birth was absolutely perfect.

I think it's time!!!

Well hopefully this will be my last prego post. It's about 7 a.m. on Tuesday May 17th. I have been up since about 4 having regular pressure waves. I was also having some last night before bed so I'm not sure if they stopped long enough for me to get some sleep or if they just weren't strong enough to keep me awake. But either way I'm glad I got some rest. So far they are intense but nothing that can't be managed. I'm just waiting till 8 or so to call Cathy and hopefully I will have made some progress! I had an appt at 4 yesterday and I was at almost a 2, had lost my mucous plug, and she stripped my membranes a little. So maybe that got it going. Also, Mary Rowley's water broke last night so she is also having her baby! I'm excited that things are finally getting started, hopefully they progress steadily and we'll have a baby here soon!

Late

I guess I'll blog about this since A) I'm bored and need something to do and B) someday I'm sure I'll look back on this with fond memories. I'm now 4 days late. I had my appt today, she didn't check me because I still am not really having any pressure waves. I get crampy a little bit every day, maybe for an hour or so, but nothing very big or uncomfortable. Somedays I stay pretty collected, some days when I let myself get too bored I go crazy and have a melt down moment.
I actually expected this, since in our hypnobabies class they said most 1st time moms go 41 weeks and 1 day, so I don't know why I'm getting so impatient, but you always think you're the exception to the rule so when you aren't I guess it's a bit disappointing. I think it's just the fact that I know she is ready and ok to come out, so I want her out. She is fully developed and has everything she needs to survive and even though I have enjoyed being pregnant, I'm so ready to see her and hold her and dress her in all the cute clothes she has :)
But all in all I'm glad she is healthy and that I'm not completely miserable like some people are at this point. I'm still not swollen or achy, I feel pretty good most the time except for being a little squished when I sit or try to cuddle. Hopefully she'll come by my next appointment, but I'm guessing she won't come before Aaron's family goes on vacation, which is Thursday morning, and it is now Tuesday night. So unless she gets her butt in gear and hurries on out they'll probably miss it and not get to see her until she's a week or so old. I'm kinda bummed about that but there isn't much anyone can do so I guess there is no reason to dwell on it. If I do make it to my next appt, she will do some homeopathic stuff to try and get things started. Anyway, hopefully this is my last prego blog. But I wanted to write this down so I could remember the agonizing anticipation I feel when I'm home alone with nothing to do for too long! :)

40 weeks

I can't believe the last time I blogged was 10 weeks ago, I'm not very good at this. Maybe I should be greatful I don't have much to blog about. My pregnancy has been so text book perfect that I don't ever have any big news. My due date is this Friday, but I haven't really been having any pressure waves or other signs she's comin so I'm guessing she'll be late. Last Thursday was my last day at Zubs, so I have been using this week to get everything deep cleaned. I don't think I'm "nesting" cuz although I know everything needs to be clean for Emery, most the time I just want to veg. But today I have been pretty motivated, although I have to take frequent breaks because it wears me out to scrub the floors and vacuum and all that stuff.
I had my first vaginal exam yesterday, which I wasn't expecting, but it went fine. She said my cervix is soft but still closed. But she also said since I haven't been having pressure waves, the babies head hasn't been pushing on it at all to make it dilate, so it's perfectly normal. Other than that, everything looks great. BP is good, urine test looked perfect, and best of all I really still feel pretty good.
I had my baby shower on April 9th and got lots of good stuff, and quite a bit of money that we were able to use to buy the rest of the things we needed. So we are all set now and just waiting for her to decide to come. I'll post pictures a little later.

pics...take 2

34 weeks!

The rest of these are 30 weeks.

ok I'm going to try to upload pics again. But for a brief update, hypnobabies is going great, we have been to 2 classes and I'm learning lots of good stuff, I think if I can just get my brain to turn off it will be a great tool to have during my birthing time. I'm determined to make it work and practice every day so hopefully it pays off!

30 week pictures!

Well not a lot has happened since I blogged just a few days ago but I did take some 30 week pics to post. My appt went good. Everything is still normal. I've gained about 21 pounds...Yikes! She also told me my ultrasound at 20 weeks put my due date at May 11th, which I didn't know. But she's still keeping it at the 6th so I'll just plan for sometime around there. Hopefully she comes before Aaron's fam leaves for Florida, I think they leave on the 13th.
Hypnobabies starts Thursday and I'm super excited. And I booked the church for my shower for April 9th. There is so much to look forward to these next 2 months!
Ok well stupid computer won't let me upload the pics...I'll try again later

30 weeks

Today I'm 30 weeks, I'll get Aaron to take some pics when I get home and put them up asap. The baby is super active now and is constantly moving. Sometimes kicking and sometimes just rolling around. You can see it on the outside and lots of times, especially if I'm up walking around, she sticks her butt (I think) out really hard so you can feel and see a hard bump on one side of my stomach.
I feel really lucky that everything has gone so well for me. I'm starting to get a little uncomfortable at times and bending over is becoming less and less possible but really, I feel good. Most of the day I don't feel squished or achy or anything. I'm starting to get kinda tired again but other than that I feel normal. I know that isn't a luxury that other women have so I'm really glad. It makes it easy to just relax and enjoy being pregnant, because I know I'll miss it when it's over.
I start my hypnobabies birthing class next week and I'm really excited for that. I have a practice c.d. I'm supposed to be using every day but I cannot stay awake when I do it. It walks you through relaxing you're whole body and by the time that part is done, I'm usually out. So I don't know how prepared I'll be for the class but we'll see. :)
We now have a crib, carseat, stroller, and changing table and once we have a nice sunny Saturday I'm going to nag Aaron into clearing out the extra room and getting it all set up. I know I still have 10 weeks but I'm getting antsy to start doing something.
Well that's about it. I have my next appt on Monday so I'll update after that and post my 30 week pics!

catch up

These first three I took today, 6 months!

This pic is around 22 weeks

Wow I am horrible at blogging, it has been 2 months since I wrote anything, and lots has happened. First off we found out we are having a....girl!!! Our ultrasound appt was on Tuesday December 14th. We were a little surprised to find out it was a girl because we had been thinking boy for quite a while. Even on the way into the ultrasound, Aaron said "I think it's going to be a boy." But as soon as she said "ok let's check for the gender" and I saw those two little legs with nothing in between, I knew it was a girl. Everything else on the ultrasound looked great so that's always good to know. I felt little movements every once in a while towards the end of the November, but by the middle of December I was feeling definite kicks. Now (January 10th) she never stops moving. Even now she is punching me in the side. Mostly I LOVE it! Except when she kicks down or backwards against my guts. It's not painful just kind of weird. Not last night but the night before she was moving like crazy while we were laying in bed watching a show. Aaron could feel it was good and we sat there for about a half hour just feeling her rolling around. My appointments have been great. I'm growing normal, gaining normal weight, healthy blood pressure and urine tests so I couldn't really ask for anything more.

I'm starting to feel a little squished but I don't like saying much because I know it's just going to get worse. It's not bad unless I have just eaten a lot. Also, I had my first embarrassing incident. Last week, new years eve, we were at Payson Market getting some stuff to take to Shanna and Joe's, I didn't even feel like I needed to go to the bathroom, but I sneezed and felt pee come shooting out. It felt like a lot so I was panicked. We were at the cash register so as soon as we paid I went running out the door as Aaron came following behind me. I told him a peed myself and we just laughed about it. It turns out it wasn't very much, it didn't show or anything, didn't even get on my pants, so it was mostly just funny.

For Christmas Kara gave baby Emery and adorable little denim dress with pink ruffles and a little rattle. And Aaron's mom bought her some shoes, but I haven't seen them yet. Also the Hansen's lent us a bassinet they aren't using. It is OLD!! But it will work. :) And she sewed us a few new sheets to go on it, they are the nicest landlords, it makes it really hard to want to leave this place, even though I don't like being in the basement.

Other than that, life goes on as normal. I'll post some belly pics. They are 23 1/2 weeks, so basically 6 months!
